There's been a Robocop sighting!
I'm watching Rome: Engineering an Empire on the History Channel last night (and why weren't you?) and they're doing their usual "experts talking about the topic" thing, and suddenly a dude shows up to talk about some marvelous feat of engineering. At the bottom of the screen is written: "Peter Weller, Syracuse University." I called Krys in and said, "It's Robocop!" She asked what I meant, and I told her that he was the guy who played Robocop. She shrugged, as she has never seen the movie!¹ So there's Weller, explaining how the Romans built the Coliseum, acting all along like he was never an actor. The nerve of him!³
Anyway, that is my news of the weird for today.
¹ Let us stop for a moment and ponder her wonderful husband, who deigned to marry her even though she has never seen Robocop. You may heap accolades upon him!²
² I bet she's never even seen Shakedown, either. Sheesh. What kind of woman did I marry anyway?
³ It really is him, by the way. Here is the story about it.

That's awesome!
You shouldn't be too hard on the missus; I too have been living a Robocopless existence.
But I've seen Naked Lunch, like, four times, so that makes up for it. Right?
"Pay attention students, or there will be... trouble."
Layne, you really should see Robocop. It's awesome. Avoid the sequel, though - not good. I suppose seeing Naked Lunch a bunch o' times is okay, though. What a weird movie.
And I guess we can forgive Krys. What say you all?
Actually, she married you, even though you HAVE seen Robocop, so that makes Krys incredible! And I don't even know the woman.
I echo Roger's sentiments. I can safely assume Krys can meet your dude flick with at least one chick flick equal. Perhaps it's something as simple as, Some Kind of Wonderful? Pretty in Pink? Oh! Maybe she watched every episode of Little House on The Prairie when she was a girl? Hmm...
So, yet another day goes by where I've failed to avoid a Robocop reference. :)
But it's all worth it to find out about "Professor Robocop."
Ashley, I love Some Kind of Wonderful and enjoyed Pretty in Pink. Of course, I loathed Little House on the Prairie, so she might have me there ...
Glad I could help, Mike.
Has she at least seen Buckaroo Banzai? Or Repo Man?
Sheesh.
I am just now watching the show on TiVo and had the surreal moment of "wow that guy look like RoboCop and even has the same name". I made my husband come and look - he agreed it was a weird coincidence. So I finally had to come do a search and see - found your blog and the article link. Super cool really. Oh and, please make sure your wife gets to Blockbuster for some much needed video rentals. Can't have her going through life without knowing who RoboCop is can we.
- oh I'm not on blogspot but on LJ as madamruppy where I'm going next to share the news
