Another year closer to death
Today is my birthday. I'm 36, which means I guess I'm officially middle-aged (isn't the life span of men 72?). I had a good day, for a birthday. Krys bought me a camcorder, which we've been talking about buying for a while. I can't wait to record the children doing goofy things like dancing around when their music is on. They dig that. We also went out to dinner and then saw Spider-Man 3 (my quick recommendation, if you're one of the 8 people on the planet who hasn't seen it yet: skip it). All in all, a nice day. Krys also bought me a cake, and it's why she is the coolest wife ever:
Yes, it's a cake with Batman on it. How cool is that? She got it from a bakery near her that is tiny, but the guy makes excellent stuff. This cake is no exception, although he screwed up and made it all vanilla instead of one layer of chocolate, like Krys asked. Oh well - it's still damned good cake.
So another year is in the books. It wasn't a bad year, all in all. I have a feeling 36 is going to be better, because I actually have some plans. We'll see.
I just really wanted to post a picture of the cake. It was the star of the day!

Happy Birthday, dear Burgas
Happy Birthday, wish we could be there
Happy Birthday to you...
And, although late, you have something coming to you and while we paid absolutely nothing for it, it truly is freakin' cool. You may want to post a picture of it too - when you get it.
I must say though, it isn't as cool as the cake Krys bought...
Thank you for my card, by the way. I like anything that has an ass on it!
Any trips to PA planned? We'd love to drive up and see you if you are going...
:+)
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the Spiderman tip. I am one of those 8 people....
Happy birthday Greg! Hope you had an excellent day. :)
Does that cake say "Happy BDay 1st Dad"??? Why 1st Dad?
Ms. Roxy - we have nothing planned for back East, but we will certainly tell you when we do. I wouldn't mind visiting for Christmas - that's always fun!
Ashley - it certainly wasn't an awful movie, but it was just kind of lame. A fun thing to watch on the television, but nothing to go out and see.
Kait - It's actually a number sign, just on the wrong side of the "1". So I'm the #1 Dad, but he screwed up. He was in a bit of a hurry. It's still great cake! Ms. Roxy can testify to that, as she's eaten stuff that he's made!
Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone.
Speaking from experience, I hate to break it to you, but children have a knack for only doing cute things when the camera is off. The act of going to get the camera and the beeping noise it makes when you turn it on inevitably will take their attention off the singing or dancing or magic trick or whatever else they are doing and shift it entirely to you. We have hours of me behind the camera saying "Just ignore me. Keep doing what you were doing," while the kids say, "Let me see the camera."
Hope you had a good birthday, Greg!!
I loved 36 and 37. Good years. Enjoy yours, sir.

Norah hardly ever lets me take her picture, Jake, because she's so fascinated with the camera that she comes at me whenever I want her to stop. So I get a lot of extreme close-ups! We're trying to figure out a place to put the camera and leave it on so they won't notice. Whether that will work or not, we don't know. It's worth a shot!
