Of course, I blame America
Shit, not really. I just wanted to get your attention. Everyone else is doing a much better job discussing the London bombings, so I won't get into it too much. A few thoughts, though:
Yes , it's sad that 37 people (so far) are dead and 700 injured. My sense of outrage is tempered a bit by the knowledge that in the time it takes you to read this post, probably 20-25 people died in the Sudan. Or, you know, [insert some other trouble spot here]. People die all the time. It's a huge tragedy, but we don't get worked up about it. We probably should, but we don't.
I can't help wonder that if our president had been serious about his war on terror, we might have broken the power of Al-Qaida by now, instead of fucking around in Iraq. Weren't we supposed to be destroying this organization? This makes me so angry that I try not to think about it. People who voted for this fucker did so because he made them feel safe. That's the only fucking reason. It wasn't because of his excellent job with the economy, or his enlightened attitude toward social problems, or his fabulous program to curb illegal immigration - it was because he was "tough on terror." True, this attack didn't happen here, but it's only a matter of fucking time before we get a repeay because Bush is too busy engaging in a "my dick is bigger than yours" contest with the pathetic ex-dictator of Iraq. Fuck him. How's your fucking war on terror today, George?
What do the terrorists want? They want exactly what we have given them - we have turned our society into the kind of society that they want. Our CIA can kill heads of state who are surrounded by bodyguards, but we can't find the heads of this pissant little terrorist organization. Maybe if we had found them, brought them to trial, proved they were fucking wackos, and thrown them in jail (which would be, you know, the Christian fucking thing to do), the non-insane people who think they're true representatives of Islam wouldn't be on their side. But no. Fuck that. We're the United States! Fuck all of you.
I hope the U.K. hunts these criminals down. I really do. They need to be punished. And now is not the time to engage in conspiracy theories or in blaming the West. But I would love to hear someone, any-fucking-one in government say something to the effect of "Boy, we shouldn't have given Osama bin Laden all those weapons years ago." I'm tired of the attitude that the West is completely faultless in these attacks. Okay, these terrorists are fucking nuts. They are evil people. But they believe they have a cause, and the problem is, a lot of non-insane people agree with them, and the United States doesn't do jack shit to try to convince them otherwise. Bush just tells them that democracy is awesome. Well, shit, of course it is. The Middle East needs more than that, especially when we're still supporting a hugely corrupt regime (Saudi Arabia) that thinks democracy is a Satanic concept.
Fuck you, Bush. Today I hate him even more than usual. I don't know if going after Al-Qaida three years ago would have stopped this, but I do know going after Saddam didn't fucking help. Asshole.

And you forgot the others that voted for Bush, those that believe that God appointed him.
So quiet down, and don't piss God off! He knows where you live!

Nah. A questioning attitde is a good thing.
Of course, you think those problems you've been having with Blogger lately is a function of the dysfunctional software. Nah, it's the CIA yanking your chain.
Greg doesn't hate America-he's just the modern equivalent of Sertorius.
Sorry for a classical reference no one will bother to understand in the last post.
But seriously, I know how you feel. Where was Bush while this was going on anyway? Did he rush back from Scotland or stay pu this time? (I haven't had the opportunity to watch the news too closely lately.)
stay "put", sorry.
I think it's to late to assign blame. The bottom line now is how do we find these bastards and stop them from continueing this sensless slaughter, and to address future policy on this subject.
We have created these monsters, they are products of our quest for dollars.
Canada has built nuclear reactors in countries that are using the technology now to build weopons.
The states have supplied weopons in the past to allies to beat their enemies only to have them turn on them down the road.
Maybe a non interference policy is the best, or an international mind our own fucken business policy would be better.
If they want to kill each other in the Middle East well by George go at it and stop asking for our help.
I have an Idea to get them to stop the bull shit. Lets call them to a meeting and tell them that they have become a cancer to the world , and like any cancer WE have decided to save ourselves and cut it out. So we'll nuke the whole area.
That should do it.
How long do you think it would take them to join together and protestand beg for another chance?
I have been so upset with the futility of the attacks and the concern that our Iraq Debacle may have led to this, that I had not yet thought about whether we could have prevented it. You make some very good points. I'll be out back, punching trees.
Matthew - I don't know about that. Saudi Arabia, for example, has a crapload of money. It's a salient point, though, and ties in with my post above this about Christianity - realpolitik is fine, I just get sick of people cloaking it in religious terms. Al-Qaeda gives Islam a bad name, just like, say, the Crusaders gave Christianity a bad name.
The U.S. needs to rethink its intereference in other countries. Not pull out and turn isolationist, but rethink how we interact with other countries. "Superpower" status, as we have seen, doesn't really offer any protection from crazy people armed with bombs.
Perhaps the title of your post should be "Of course, I fucking blame America." That will just get us ready for the rest of the fucks throughout the post.
Seriously though, I understand, I feel the same and I'm sad and disjointed with how I feel about America. I am so thankful for our freedoms and the wonderful things I enjoy on a day to day basis because I live here. But my heart continues to break every time I see the poison our president and media spews on a daily basis.
Good post, Greg.
