It's beach blanket bingo on Picture Day!

In late January 1994 Krys and I visited the Oregon coast and Cannon Beach for the first time. It would not be the last time, because Cannon Beach is awesome. It was a beautiful day - freezing, but beautiful, and we drove along the coast for a while just checking things out. The Oregon coast is much different from what we had known in the East, where for miles inland you're at sea level and the beaches are wide and flat. In Oregon, the land plummets into the ocean, and the beaches, while nice in some areas (Seaside and Florence, for instance), are often narrow and stony.

We started up high and worked our way down to the ocean, basically. This is looking south toward Cannon Beach.

More rocks near the shore. Not much else to say - I just like rugged coastlines.

See what I mean? Don't question - just soak up the scenery!

We did eventually make it down to the "beach," such as it is. Someone needs to tell that hippie in the picture to get her hair cut!

This is Haystack Rock, which I suppose is the famous rock on the Oregon coast. It's a bird sanctuary, actually - no humans allowed! We have pictures of it from closer in, but you'll have to wait for those. That was on a different trip to the beach.

The Oregon coast is one of those places that always gets mentioned as a good drive to make. I agree. Make plans to visit today!

Nice pix! Every time I shoot on the Coast it seems like it's an overcast day, you got some nice sunny ones.

Nik, we usually went to the beach on a whim when the weather was already nice, so we didn't plan it weeks in advance and then were stuck if the weather was bad. Usually we woke up on Saturday and said "Hey, the weather is nice - let's go to the beach!" The one exception was when we went to Florence for the weekend, and we got lucky, because the weather was nice.

We've had occasions where the weather here is fine, about 70 miles east of the ocean, and get to the ocean, and it's a foggy mess. Unpredictable Oregon.
