Ricardo Montalban has died
He was 88. He started in American movies in 1946, but didn't really become a household name, of course, until 1978, when he started playing Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island. What the hell was up with Roarke, anyway? Was he Satan? Montalban, a fine Catholic, probably wouldn't have dug that. But still. Of course, for nerds the world over, he'll always be Khaaan!
Let's hope he's resting in peace on "soft Corinthian leather."
Man, they don't make awesome commercials like that anymore, do they?

It's both sad and funny that the first thing most people thought of when we heard he had passed away was, "Khaaaaan!!"
I prefer to think of it as such an iconic role that he'll be remembered forever for it. I wonder how he felt about being so well known for that.
I wrote about him only 3 months ago - http://rogerowengreen.blogspot.com/2008/10/m-is-for-montalban.html - and I got a couple KHAN responses then.
Dos Equis should have hired Ricardo Montalban to do a few ads for them as their "most interesting man in the world" (he has a Spanish accent too, which fits perfectly)
